Lowveld National Botanical Garden

The Lowveld National Botanical Garden is brimming with charm at every turn, but you may wind up finding your favourite spot along the Riverside Trail. This one-kilometre trail takes you through a meandering indigenous bush and riverine forest along the Crocodile River. On the green side, you'll see waterberries, Mitzeeri, and red-leaved rock figs. But the trail will also offer chance encounters for the rare African finfoot, as well as mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and butterflies. Water pools, flat rocks, and little cascades along the way offer a moment to pause and embrace the healing power of nature.

The hiking trails are well-marked and offer plenty of spots to enjoy panoramic views of lush vegetation. A prime birding spot, this hiking trail can help you capture fantastic shots of bronze mannikin, Cape robin-chat, and purple-crested turaco, to name a few. The trail lies within a residential area, so you'll feel quite safe during your foray. Simply pull out some choice nibbles from your picnic basket and enjoy your time in the fresh air.
